After Daniel Alfredsson's press conference today, we thought it would be nice to cover some of Alfie's greatest career moments. Blogs like SensChirp have already covered his greatest highlights, so we thought we'd cover the lesser known aspects of his greatest career achievements. Here we go!
March 14, 1972 - Daniel Alfredsson is conceived on a magical night in Gothenburg, Sweden.
December 11, 1972 - Daniel Alfredsson is born.

July 1994 - Daniel Alfredsson is chosen 133rd overall in the NHL entry draft. The announcement is nearly drowned out by the uproarious laughter of everyone in attendance. "He certainly won't become that franchise's best player of all time," said one Ottawa Sun writer.
October 7, 1995 - In his first NHL game, Daniel Alfredsson gets his first point. Six days later, he scores his first goal. He rests on the seventh day.
June 19, 1996 - Alfredsson wins the Calder award as the NHL's best rookie. At the awards ceremony, Alfie said, "It's great to start my career with such an impressive trophy. Hopefully on my retirement day, my team's owner presents me with an equally impressive piece of hardware."
You see, that was foreshadowing, because whatever this thing is is horrible. |
May 2, 1998 - The Ottawa Senators win their first ever playoff series against the New Jersey Devils, largely thanks to the performance of Daniel Alfredsson. "Personally, it's just great to have the honour to have played against a future St. Louis Blues legend in Martin Brodeur."
October 1, 1999 - Daniel Alfredsson is named captain of the Ottawa Senators. In his speech, he says, "And don't you worry. I would never leave town over a contract dispute like the last guy."
February 1, 2002 - Driving to practice, Alfredsson notices a bus full of nuns in distress. The driver has had a heart-attack and the bus is careening toward the edge of a cliff. Alfredsson leaps from his Volvo and takes control of the bus, preventing disaster. A humble Alfredsson later told reporters: "I just did what anyone would have done in my place."
May 10, 2002 - Alfredsson lays a perfectly clean hit on Darcy Tucker and heroically scores the game-winning goal. This is never contested by anyone and even Leafs fans admit that it was just a great play by a great player.
2003 - Daniel and Birgitta give birth to their first child and future Ottawa Senators captain Hugo Alfredsson.
January 7, 2004 - Alfredsson’s arch-rival Mats Sundin shows his true disdain for Toronto and all Maple Leafs fans by disrespectfully throwing his broken stick at the innocent crowd, impaling a spectator. Realizing he’s still the captain, Sundin places a call to his friend Alfie and asks him to help take the heat off. Alfie responds back, simply: "I got you, bud."
January 8, 2004 - Alfie pretends to throw his stick but doesn't actually throw it. Torontonians are still not over this, apparently.
February 26, 2006 - Alfredsson wins gold with team Sweden at the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The medals are spun entirely from Alfie's gold locks.
June 4, 2007 - In Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Scott Niedermayer is one blocked shot away from the playoff record. Recognizing this achievement, Alfredsson shoots the puck at Niedermayer right before the second period ends so that Scott and his teammates could celebrate during the intermission.
February 18, 2008 - Daniel Alfredsson scores 11 goals against the Washington Capitals as the Senators win 11-0. A humble Alfredsson later told reporters: “I just did what anyone would have done in my place.”
October 22, 2010 - Alfredsson records his 1,000th career point with a hat trick in Buffalo. "You couldn't write a better script for that," said coach Cory Clouston. "He was our best player...for him to play that way when we've got guys out and struggling, we needed him to step up like he did. That's why I put him out there even when there were already another six or seven guys on the ice."
January 29, 2012- Daniel Alfredsson scores twice at the NHL All-Star Game. His performance is so impressive that the NHL has yet to hold another All-Star Game since.
May 23, 2013 - When asked if his team could overcome a 3-1 series deficit to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Alfie responded, "Probably not." Thus continuing his streak of never being wrong even once in his life.

November 24, 2014 - Long thought to be a recluse, living high on the hill in Alfie Manor, Alfredsson makes a surprise return to the public spotlight. Shortly thereafter, a masked hero known only as The Swede also returns to the public eye, just as a gang of highly-trained killers under the leadership of a demented mercenary unleashes a wave of tyranny upon an unsuspecting city. Madness takes hold and the city descends into chaos. The Swede is urged to just retire but he chooses instead of take on the mercenary in an epic display of #punching. “We should just go,” The Swede’s female accomplice urges. “You’ve given these people everything!” “Not everything. Not yet.” The Swede replies.

December 4, 2014 - Alfredsson returns to Ottawa to retire as a member of the team that disgraced him, even though, had he been able to continue playing, he definitely would have totally been a Red Wing.
April 3, 2016 - Plans for a new downtown Ottawa arena in the shape of Alfredsson’s head go through the final stages of approval. The "Friends of Lebreton" community group issues a statement complaining that the sole-source contract awarded to construct the Krusty the Clown hair wings is undemocratic.
November 11, 3126 - International Alfie Day is celebrated by erecting a giant 11 story tall Daniel Alfredsson statue 11 feet in front of the Peace Tower. The statue honours his 1111th straight cup as the GM of the Ottawa Senators. His hair doesn't look a day over 400.
We hope you enjoyed a look back at some of Alfie's greatest moments. WE LOVE YOU, ALFIE!!!
