I was browsing through this year's unrestricted free agent crop and began to realise that it's a gold mine for the Ottawa Senators! They could assemble a full line of ex-Senators (not including the past season) that could actually hold their own. Let's take a look at this All-Star lineup!
Starting at LW... #13... Vaclav Prospal
38 Years Old - 2012-2013 Columbus Blue Jackets
Regular Season: 48 GP, 12G 18A
Acquired when the Sens shipped off NHL legend Alexandre Daigle, Prospal turned out to be one of the Sens' consistent scorers during the late '90s. However, after letting him go during the 2000-2001 season, Prospal exploded for a career high 80 points in 2005-06 with the Tampa Bay Lightning. This past season he showed that he's still got game. Wouldn't it be great to bring him back and give you the excuse to buy this incredible jersey?
Starting at C... #7... Matt Cullen!
36 Years Old - 2012-2013 Minnesota Wild
Regular Season: 42 GP, 7G 20A / Playoffs: 5GP, 0G 3A
His stint with the Sens may have been short, but he was the first to give us a taste of what having a true offensive 2nd line center feels like. Plus he did his job during the playoffs, scoring 8 points in 6 games including this beauty of a breakaway goal (before everything went downhill in that game).
Starting at RW... #27... Alex Kovalev!
40 Years Old - 2012-2013 Florida Panthers
Regular Season: 14 GP, 2G 3A
Every team needs a scapegoat! At least we'll get one good game out of him... and he can still moonwalk on the ice right?
Starting on D... #7.2... Joe Corvo!
36 Years Old - 2012-2013 Carolina Hurricanes
Regular Season: 40 GP, 6G 11A
Joe "Uh Oh" Corvo may be remembered for his defensive gaffes, but he was still a very solid offensive defenceman in his stint here. Nobody will forget his knucklepuck overtime winner against the Buffalo Sabres during the Stanley Cup run.
Starting on D... #6... Wade Redden!
36 Years Old - 2012-2013 St.Louis Blues/Boston Bruins
Regular Season: 29 GP, 3G 4A
If not for Erik Karlsson, Wade Redden may have been remembered as Ottawa's best franchise defenceman. Instead he will always be known as "the guy chosen over Chara". He's gotten one monkey off his back after beating the Toronto Maple Leafs, putting up an impressive two point performance in the first game. He clearly did something right in Ottawa if a fan made this appreciation video that spans over 9 minutes.
Starting in G... #1... Ray Emery!
30 Years Old - 2012-2013 Chicago Blackhawks
Regular Season: 21 GP, 1.94GAA .922SV%
It seems like yesterday when Emery was the crazy kid driving around his hummer around Kanata and leading the Sens to the SCF. Now he's matured, battling through a potential career ending injury and having become a Stanley Cup winner. No better time for his return to the Nation's Capital... to resume his music career.
What are your thoughts on putting this incredible group together for the 2013-2014 season?
